Gameplay[]
"While you'd be better off buying several 100mm railguns,
they just don't have the range that the 200mm variety has.If you only have 35 tons free, try this out on your ship; if it doesn't work for you, get a 100mm and use the extra 20 tons for solar panels and batteries." ― EVula Survival Guide
This is the largest Railgun available. It occupies a gun slot and can fire at any target within a 45° arc of the bow. It does the most damage to armor of all the Railguns and is an excellent weapon for long range bombardment, as it outranges every non-Railgun weapon in the game. However, its large mass and slow reload time make it a bad choice for close range combat.
Appealing at first, there have been many damage-per-second and damage-per-ton calculations, all suggesting that the 200mm version is inferior in both categories to all other Railguns. It also has slower rate of fire and lower range than its smaller cousins in addition to occupying a staggering amount of tonnage per gun. The difference between 2 200mm and 2 100mm Railguns is a whopping 40 tons used.
Outfit[]
"The mother of all railguns. Firing a 200mm copper/cadmium pellet, this railgun looks like nothing less than a deck gun from an ancient Earth ocean-going warship. The electrode rails get so scored during battle that they must be replaced at every landfall. Luckily the rails are very cheap and easy to manufacture. Some have even been constructed of old armor plates in times of emergency."
The 200mm Railgun is an Auroran weapon that doesn't use any ammunition. It's found on a sparser variety of worlds than it's smaller counterparts: one must specifically visit Auroran worlds, typically Battlestations or Homeworlds to find this weapon.
