The Aurora Industries Abomination is an Auroran ship in Escape Velocity Nova. To obtain an Abomination, you either must have been inducted as a Heraan warrior by the priesthood on Gungungun or disable and capture one.
"Abomination by name, abomination by nature. The Auroran technicians created this monstrous gunship in response to the threat of the Federation Patrol Boat. The Abomination mounts twin Fusion Pulse Batteries as its armament, which are more than sufficient to rip through the light hull of the Patrol Boat. A severe lack of maneuverability makes it vulnerable to attack from capital ship sized weapons, though, which make short work of its armor. Auroran pilots find the idea of honorable victory against huge odds very enticing, so the Abomination is very popular." ― Buying an Abomination
The Abomination is an extra-heavy starfighter with a plethora of turrets and missile tubes.
Stats[]
"«So, you're worried about getting killed. Don't worry; I have killed more warriors than I've killed soft merchants like you.» Smiling politely, you know that the Auroran warrior speaks the truth. His ship is scarred and battered, yet it and its pilot exude defiance and bravery. You know you can trust this man, but it would be advisable to pay him up front. You get the distinct impression that he doesn't respect you, and so would have no qualms about killing you if he felt you were doing wrong by him or his house." ― Hiring an Abomination
Frunch'ek Class (#152)[]
Stats |
---|
|
The Frunch'ek will show you that firepower saturation is the name of the game, as long as you're sitting in front of it.
Wild Variants[]
Shipvariant stat changes are relative to the stats of the basic model. The basic model is Frunch'ek.
The following shipvariants are unavailable in the shipyard and must be captured in the field.
Va Themgiir Class (#241)[]
Stats |
---|
|
This shipvariant is fast but has a disturbingly low amount of ammunition for its chainguns. Expect to run out in about 3 Fed Vipers.
Va French'ek Class (#240)[]
Stats |
---|
|
A substantial speed boost combined with turreted railguns would make this a good shipvariant to play keepaway in.
Dechanik Class (#239)[]
Stats |
---|
|
This shipvariant is a sniper that chose heavy railguns as its primary armament.
House Variants[]
The family shipvariants are a spectrum that ranges from atrocious (Moash and Dani) to variably inferior (Vella and Tekel) to paragon (Heraan). They all have a loadout similar to the Auroran Frunch'ek, meaning FPBs and Radar Missiles.
Moash - Va Themgiir (#242)[]
Stats |
---|
|
The Moash shipvariant is an amusing embarrassment. The low turn rate and fuel make it almost unpilotable. Not only has its armor thickness been halved but its internals are easier to disable, too.
Dani - Va Themgiir (#243)[]
Stats |
---|
|
Through improving, the Dani shipvariant is a downgrade in every way to the basic ship and the thickness of its armour remains pathetic. It is not armed with chainguns, unlike the Auroran Va Themgiir.
Vella - Frunch'ek (#244)[]
Stats |
---|
|
The Vella shipvariant almost presents a return to the stats of the basic ship, but it is still of somewhat lower quality.
Tekel - Frunch'ek (#245)[]
Stats |
---|
|
The Tekel shipvariant trades a jump, a gun slot and a small amount of turn rate for some speed when compared to the basic ship. There's not much else to say.
Heraan - Va French'ek (#246)[]
Stats |
---|
|
The Heraan shipvariant combines the speed of the Va French'ek with the equipment space of the Dechanik. It also is the most turret focused of the Abominations. Its loadout remains vanilla, though augmented with Point Defence.
Duelist Variants[]
As your Combat Rating increases, Auroran warriors will begin to want to test your mettle. All these ships are equipped with disabling weapons.
Frunch'ek, Duelist (#384)[]
Stats |
---|
|
This shipvariant is faster, but its disabling loadout is less threatening (naturally!) and it has the penalties associated with other Abomination shipvariants: namely, the missing gun slot and one jump of fuel.
Moash - Va Themgiir, Duelist (#385)[]
Stats |
---|
|
Should be an easy win.
Dani - Va Themgiir, Duelist (#386)[]
Stats |
---|
|
It can actually turn to face you in combat, but it's still twice as easily to kill as most other Abominations.
Vella - Frunch'ek, Duelist (#387)[]
Stats |
---|
|
The Vella duelist isn't completely embarrassing himself but he doesn't represent a challenge, either.
Tekel - Frunch'ek, Duelist (#388)[]
Stats |
---|
|
May actually carry enough Radar Missiles to pose a threat. Lost some armour compared to its non-dueling counterpart.
Heraan - Va French'ek, Duelist (#389)[]
Stats |
---|
|
The only duelist with more than two turrets. Launches a harrowing barrage of missiles to start. Has kindly unequipped his Storm Chainguns.
Technical Variants[]
The following shipvariant is unavailable in the shipyard and serves a particular gameplay purpose.
Hune's Heraan - Va French'ek (#395)[]
This is the personal ship of Hune.

This is the most powerful Abomination in the galaxy but you wouldn't abandon your duty just to steal it from him, right?
Gameplay Analysis[]
"The Abomination is a great heavy fighter for the Aurorans. Its fusion pulse weapons are very dangerous, while its speed is high enough that it can dodge missiles if it has to." ― EVula Survival Guide
The Abomination sums up the mayfly warrior's mindset as they pursue glory above all else, even their own survival. It is slow, turns like a pregnant Hyperioid and its Fusion Pulse Batteries (495) do not have the range of the standard cannon (600). Its low mass gives it a tendency to be pushed around by most weaponry making it difficult to stay on target. On the plus side, the batteries and missile launchers allow the pilot to lay down a withering barrage of fire within its effective range.
The Abomination has a decent amount of armor which can be roughly doubled by purchasing the Matrix Steel and Carbon Fiber outfits. The Port & Polish and Vectored Thrust outfits can be installed to give this frankenstein a much needed boost in agility. The final result is a reasonably speedy ship with powerful weapons and more armor than any gunship has any business having. If the Sigma Mount Reinforcement is available, it is possible to mount 4 FPBs which will overwhelm the armor of most ships in seconds.
When fighting this ship stay away from the firing arc of the batteries. That's 90 degrees to the front only - it does not fire to the side. The sheer volume of fire will deal significant damage. Be sure to exploit its limited mobility when engaging it.
One should never capture a Moash Abomination or be they'll be surprised by the extremely small fuel tanks and pathetic Pegasus-like turn rate.

The Abomination's original model was made by Scott Vardy, with textures by him with adjustments from Dave Williams.
