A Battery Pack is an ancient idea updated with modern technology: a storage cell for energy that allows starships to extend their ability to hyperjump. It's cheap and available almost anywhere. The basic system has hardly changed in over two millennia of space flight.

Battery Packs are only storage systems -- they do not create their own energy. They must be recharged via refueling or shipborne energy sources.
