The E-41 Fed Destroyer is a Federation ship in Escape Velocity Nova. In order to acquire a Fed Destroyer, you either must have destroyed the Rebels for the Bureau, consolidating their total control over the Federation by eliminating all people with both values and a backbone or disable and capture one.
"The Federation Destroyer was developed to cope with the defense of an ever-changing frontier. Capable of quickly responding to an incursion and equipped with versatile weapons to meet a wide range of foes, the E-41 was dubbed the 'guard-dog' of the Federation. Effective as a peace-keeper during the time of expansion, the E-41 is now nearly obsolete as a primary weapons platform." ― Buying a Destroyer
The Fed Destroyer is a medium warship that is laughable when its missile stocks run dry.
Stats[]
"The E-41 has had its heyday, but this one still looks like she has fight left in her. The base chief is willing to assign her to escort duty for an appropriate commission to the Federation War Fund. You suspect she'll skim a little for herself, as well." ― Hiring a Destroyer
Destroyer Class (#141)[]

|
The free rides for Federal Navy members are finally over: the Fed Destroyer requires every license that it ought to.
The lack of respect allotted to the Fed Destroyer partially starts here: with a capital ship equipped with a pair of Light Blasters.
Wild Variants[]
Stat changes are relative to the stats of the basic model. The basic model is Destroyer Class.
The following shipvariants are unavailable in the shipyard and must be captured in the field.
Auroran Outfits Detected (#211)[]

|
The alleged Auroran outfits are really only an afterthought here -- this is the 'over-reliance on Point-Defence' variant.
Missile Variant (#212)[]
Stats |
---|
|
This shipvariant poses a respectable threat, humorously not with missiles but with its Heavy Blaster Turrets.
Heavy Missile Variant (#213)[]
Stats |
---|
|
This shipvariant features weapons banned by treaty (big nukes) and their little sibling (thermobaric missiles). This would make them a useful escort to completely immobilize your enemies.
Carrier Version (#214)[]
Stats |
---|
|
This shipvariant is the only one that makes use of the hangar bays beneath the keel engines.
Gameplay Analysis[]
"As a competent capital ship the Destroyer is, much like every other ship, deadlier when traveling in packs. The Heavy Missile variants are the worst to fight as their Hellhound Missiles can be rather devastating, especially when followed up with a few Patrol Boats." ― EVula Survival Guide
It's extremely easy to destroy a Fed Destroyer. You must simply get into it's personal space and the Destroyer will slowly try to retreat to a distance the AI considers ideal. You're now in it's blind spot and its turrets cannot shoot you. Exploit this until it is finished. Consider this strategy whenever you need to say no to a long-haired man.
The Fed Destroyer is not the best ship for the player; it's only good uses are as a missile escort or cannon fodder. Problems with flying a Fed Destroyer lie mainly in its ridiculously low speed and the fact that you cannot turn it when it is fully ionized. When the Fed Destroyer is upgraded with the Port & Polish, Vectored Thrust and Sigma Engine Tune-up, it will become a more capable killing platform.
Images[]
The original Fed Destroyer was made by Scott Vardy, but with an extensive remodel by Dave Williams. He split the front section in half, bent it askew and placed the wings at an angle.
