Gameplay[]

"Bring out the big guns. Best for capital ships, these can take out many a fighter with just a few continuous hits. Beware, or enjoy. ;)" ― EVula Survival Guide

The Heavy Blaster deals heavy damage with a reasonable speed and range. Despite this, it is actually a poor choice as a primary weapon. It's best use is to supplement railguns in the event an enemy combatant manages to enter medium range.

As with other blasters, this weapon is more effective against shields than armor. You may complement it with anti-armor weapons such as a Fusion Pulse Turret in order to shred armour once the enemy's shields are gone.

The Heavy Blaster Turret slightly reduces the maneuverability of your ship. This could be significant if the theoretical maximum of 4 Heavy Blaster Turrets and 4 Illegal Heavy Blaster Turrets were installed on a Non-Missile Variant of a captured Fed Carrier in the Rebellion Storyline. In that case, the reduction would be -20 Acceleration and -8 Turn Rate from the legal turrets and -8 Acceleration from the illegal turrets, reducing the Non-Missile Variant's turn rate from 30 to 22 and acceleration from 175 to 147.

Heavy Blaster Turret on a Fed Carrier

"So big and slow that only a turret mechanism allows it to hit anything at all, the Heavy Blaster Turret is the grand-daddy of the Pyrogenesis line of directed energy firepower. Mounted as standard on the E-60 Carrier, the pride of the Federation fleet, the Heavy Blaster chews through shields and armor alike. The short range and slow speed of the enormous packets limit the effectiveness of this weapon at anything other than boarding range."

The Heavy Blaster Turret is the largest version of the blaster line. It is so unwieldy that it is not offered for sale without a turret.

To purchase the legal version, you must have completed part of the Bureau Storyline. Specifically, you must have completed Lead Attack on Rebels. The legal version is available on planets with a Federation Navy presence such as Kerensky and the various Spacedocks and on planets with high-tech outfitting services such as Earth and GLi-Tech-nia.

The Heavy Blaster Turret is usually carried by Heavy Warships due to it's sizable mass. Notable exceptions are the Class C Starbridge, which carries 2.

The claim that a fixed version of the Heavy Blaster would be unable to hit anything is contradicted by the reasonable speed and long range of the projectile.

"And you can buy it here without a license, but you had better be wary of Federation scans..."

To purchase the illegal version, you must have completed part of the Rebellion Storyline. Specifically, you must have completed Intel Re-assignment. Despite that requirement, the illegal version is not for sale at any Rebellion bases and is only available on planets with illegal outfitting services such as Simpson, Altia, Harbor and Rimerta.

If you have this weapon installed while on amicable terms with the Federation, you will have to occasionally endure attacks by worthless Federation Patrol craft such as the Fed Viper, or somewhat more dangerous attacks by Close Quarters Variant Fed Patrol Boats. These attacks might also rally the Federation's allies in the system to attack you, forcing to leave the system in a hurry if you don't want to die or hemorrhage legal rating.

The Illegal Heavy Blaster Turret takes up 133% more free space than the legal version, making it considerably less efficient for damage output. However, despite being more massive, it reduces the maneuverability of the host ship less than the legal version.
