Gameplay[]
"Better than a light blaster, the medium variety is a much better choice for arming your ship. If you can't hold the max number of cannons with this weapon, throw some light ones into the mix just to have that extra "punch" at VERY close range." ― EVula Survival Guide
Unlike the Light Blaster, the Medium Blaster is merely unexceptional rather than actively detrimental to your chances of survival. Boasting a 250% increase in shield damage and 500% increase in hull damage alongside a 180% increase of range, it expands your list of targets immensely.

Medium Blaster on a Starbridge
"Pyrogenesis' midrange product is the unimaginatively named Medium Blaster. This variant is normally carried by capital ships only; the weight alone makes it difficult for anything smaller to mount it. While it's slower and more bulky than its lesser sibling, the Medium Blaster is much more powerful. The lack of a turret mechanism does drop the weight some."
Medium Blasters are weapon units that fire a moderately damaging unguided photon packet. Since they are heavier and more powerful than the Light Blaster, they are an ideal choice for Light Warships. They're most commonly found in Federation space on medium-tech worlds. Unfortunately, in order to acquire one from said Federation world one must participate in Federation bureaucracy by obtaining a Heavy Weapons License. This requirement does not apply to advanced Auroran planets such as Heraan or Latin where you can get a legal version without a license.
"And you can buy it here without a license, but you had better be wary of Federation scans..."
To acquire this weapon outside of Federation Bureaucracy, or perhaps simply to increase the maximum number of Medium Blasters you own while at the maximum number of legal blasters, you may purchase illegal versions on shady planets such as Altia, Simpson or Rimerta. The illegal version is 2 tons heavier than the legal version, which harms it's efficiency as a weapon some.
If you have this weapon installed while on amicable terms with the Federation, Federation Patrol craft such as the Fed Viper, or Fed Patrol Boats will attempt to scan you. To stop the scan, shoot them and run. There is no penalty for assault.
