The Sigma Shipyards Pegasus is a civilian ship in Escape Velocity Nova. To acquire a Pegasus, you either must have completed a cargo delivery for Rodney Andrews and not have declined any of the more sensitive missions he offers you or disable and capture one. This craft is unavailable for most of the Vell-os Storyline.
"In the war against the Vell-os, many of the old cargo carriers were wrecked beyond repair, and the shipping houses whose livelihood depended on them faced financial ruin. A solution was found by a young engineer named Eyeya Soyahc, who realized that a Leviathan was too big to be destroyed utterly. Thus he organized teams to salvage the enormous cargo rings from the floating hulks. These rings were repaired and retrofitted with engines. The design was such a commercial success that it was adopted in its own right, and is now manufactured by many worlds." ― Buying a Pegasus
A large bulk freighter. The name of this craft is misleading as it is slow and plodding.
Stats[]
"Pegasi are more common than Leviathans, but they are still an awesome sight. The captain is proud of his ungainly ship, boasting of its superior turn rates and sublight speed compared to most freight vessels of its size. He neglects to mention that he can't carry as much cargo as some, either." ― Hiring a Pegasus
12b Model (#132)[]

Despite having a MBT, the Pegasus does not require a Heavy Weapons License.
Shipyard Variants[]
Stat changes are relative to the stats of the basic model. The basic model is 12b Model.
Poorly maintained Second-hand (#365)[]

This shipvariant offers reasonable savings of three fourths of a million credits, or one IDA Frigate.
Well maintained Second-hand (#366)[]
Gold stats indicate "with the pre-installed outfits, as a playable ship".

This shipvariant demonstrates that Federation licenses are transferable. Due to the extreme cost associated with uparmouring capital ships, the increased cost can be recouped simply by selling the Carbon Fiber, which each would cost 500k new and fill 20 tons of outfit space.
This is the only ship that comes with Shield Rechargers, an outfit that usually requires progression in the Bureau Storyline. These allow it to recharge its shields in just over a minute and a half.
Wild Variants[]
The following shipvariants are unavailable in the shipyard and must be captured in the field.
Advanced Shielding (#193)[]

This shipvariant swaps speed for protection. It features best-in-Pegasi gun and turret slots and fills them with a trio of MBTs.
Upgraded Engines (#194)[]

This shipvariant swaps protection for speed. It also features best-in-Pegasi gun and turret slots and fills them with a trio of MBTs.

This is the shipvariant favored by Marauders. Despite having significantly increased equipment space, the cargo hold remains untouched. It pays for this with reduced speed.
Gameplay Analysis[]
"This a great ship to have as an escort, as its 1000 tons can help turn a huge profit with commodity trading. I wouldn't want it as my own ship, however, as it's painfully slow, and is just begging to be pirated." ― EVula Survival Guide
The Pegasus does feature some expandability and can be configured to be less vulnerable to attackers. As with most civilian craft, you'll occasionally encounter a murderous Pegasus that has been stolen and up-armed by a Marauder. Some pilots recognize such an encounter as an excellent opportunity to obtain a bulk freighter without the usual hassle of hiring and upgrading one.
Pegasi are generally best used as escort ships unless you have a tremendous amount of money to invest in upgrades. You'll also spend much less time traveling from the system's centre to hyperspace if you fly a faster craft and let the Pegasi carry the cargo.

The Pegasus was made by Scott Vardy, who is credited in game as the creator of the Pegasus under the name "Eyeya Soyahc". 'Soyahc' is 'Chayos' backwards, which was one of Scott Vardy's nicknames back in the day, as was Eyeya. The Pegasus is a post-Vell-os war chopped up version of the Leviathan, which came first.
