A Person is a named ship in Escape Velocity Nova. This is a list of every person in the game, with details on their quotes, ship, weapons, factions, offered missions and location. Some persons represent unique ships, while others are generic.
Jason Cook often appears in the Bloodstone system.
Resurrection
If a person has an escape pod and afterburner, they'll reappear upon being killed. If they hold a grudge, they'll attack you the next time they see you.
Appearance Rate
When ships are spawned there's a 5% chance of spawning a person selected from the persons that meet the criteria for spawning in that system. It's also possible to assign a person to a system resource so that a specific person often appears in that system. For example, Jason Cook is set to appear 10% of the time in Bloodstone. Notably, you'll never see two persons interacting unless the system resource makes that happen. Also, the chance that a person appears from the global pool is non-configurable.
You may notice that several persons have multiple duplicates of themselves in the game data. This must have been done to dilute the global pool, as there's no other reason to do so.
Types of persons
Storyline Characters: Representing a named character in one of the storylines, these have powerful ships and weapons.
Developers: As one of the people who contributed to the creation of EV Nova, these usually have godlike ships and weapons. Ambrosia persons are significantly weaker than ATMOS persons and lack ammunition for their special weapons.
Ships offering missions: These are ships that offer a mission to the player character when hailed. These sometimes have names, and are sometimes generic. The named ones are slightly stronger and usually have a single extra weapon. Interestingly, for the Polaris these constitute the only examples of armed Sprites and Cambrians.
Navy Soldiers: There are named Federation and Auroran ships that are more powerful than normal and always hold a grudge upon being destroyed. The Federation ships are always Fed Carriers and are set to have high appearance rates in specific systems. For example, the UFS Razorback appears 50% of the time in Kania.
Adding new people
If new people are added to the game via plug-in, then a new pilotfile must be started before those persons will appear. The list of people that can appear is individual to a pilotfile.
