Description Unrelenting Variants Images

The Unrelenting is the name of two heavily modified Pirate Carriers, both built by Olaf Greyshoulders, in Escape Velocity Nova.

The first Unrelenting was built during the heyday of the Association and helmed by Morgan Greyshoulders during his tenure as the faction's leader. It was disabled, then destroyed, by multiple E-41 Fed Destroyers in an ambush set up by McGowan, after it held off the Federation warships long enough for a small contingent of Association ships to flee. Morgan Greyshoulders and his wife perished with the ship, although Olaf escaped with the couple's newborn child to parts unknown. The destruction of the Unrelenting, along with a large portion of Association ships, resulted in McGowan's faction, the Free Traders, replacing the Association as the most prominent de facto pirate faction for many years.

The second Unrelenting was built in secret at Greyshoulders Dockyards in Viking over the course of many years following the destruction of the first Unrelenting, featuring slight improvements over the original ship's specifications. Towards the end of the Association Storyline, Olaf Greyshoulders formally hands over the Unrelenting to Morgan's child—the player—once they have succeeded in reuniting most of the surviving crew of the original Unrelenting, so that they can serve the player in the same capacity on the new ship. This Unrelenting played a pivotal role in killing McGowan and destroying the Free Traders for good, thus avenging the deaths of the player's parents, as well as the casualties sustained by the Association during McGowan's ambush, and ushering in a new age of prosperity for the Association.

Gameplay Analysis[]

"The Unrelenting is another one of those ships that can claim to be the best in the game, but it all depends on the pilot's flying and fighting style. It's got a great base armament, but enough expansion room that you can make it all the deadlier." ― EVula Survival Guide

The Unrelenting is a deeply personal ship, since it ties directly into the background story of the player's heritage. It is one of the strongest vessels outside of Polaris space (it can easily trump anything the Federation has), and has ample expansion room. Although the player's old ship must be lost, the ship is free and it will receive a powerful engine upgrade later on by doing a side string. You can still capture other ships and make it an escort, but its sell value is 0.

With a stock capacity of 16 Pirate Vipers and 6 Pirate Thunderheads, the Unrelenting is a self-contained armada. Its on-board armaments are also fierce: (2) EMP Torpedo Tubes, (4) 200mm Fixed Railguns, (3) Hellhound Missile Launchers and (4) Heavy Blaster turrets - with room to expand.
