Gameplay[]

"The Polaris torpedo is a very fearsome object indeed. They have a great range, and are pretty cheap for the damage that they deal out. Just like the Wraith Cannon, a single launcher will probably be just fine for your needs (unless you want to let loose with a volley of them, in which case you should get two)." ― EVula Survival Guide

This weapon is what makes encounters with the Nil'kemorya so dangerous. They don't have to move into close range to vaporize you with their absurdly overpowered beam weaponry. They are more than pleased to hang back and bombard you with Polaron Torpedoes. There is nothing you can do to delay this doom but to fly very quickly away.

This is the longest range missile weapon in the game.

The Polaron Torpedo Tube has a "Fire While Cloaked" version, which lets you destroy your enemies without them fighting back, but the cost is a halved ammo capacity.

Polaron Torpedoes are the most valuable homing weapon in the game. They do massive amounts of damage, use no mass, are near impossible to shake, and will pursue you far, far longer than any missile normally would. The only downside? The low ammo cap. You are only allowed 40 of the normal Polaron torpedoes, and almost half that of the Multi-Torp salvos. This means that you either have to choose your targets wisely, or be close to a Polaris outfitter that sells them.

The extreme range of both the regular and multi versions of this weapon defines the limit of the radar screen. In other words, once a ship is visible on the radar screen either directly above, below, to the right, or to the left of your ship then it is in range of a Polaron Torpedo. The actual range can be better defined as a circle circumscribed within the radar screen, so ships appearing in the corners may still be out of range.

Polaron Torpedo Tube on a Scarab

"This launcher ties into a ship's main computer core (or neural network, in the case of Polaris ships). It tracks a target ship, and then calculates the complex field generation parameters for the Polaron Flux Coils in the tube. By varying the quantity, spin and charge of the newly generated polarons, the tube can give the polaron 'virtual structure' a good bead on a target before the preprogrammed field generator in the heart of the energy burst takes over."

The Polaron Torpedo Tube is a weapon that uses Polaron Torpedoes as ammunition.

The Polaron Torpedo Tube comes standard on the Arachnid and Scarab. You must have completed part of the Polaris Storyline to purchase these outfits, specifically the mission Defend Polaris Space.

"Having no mass, the Polaron Torpedo is a masterpiece of non-corporeal engineering. The charge and spin of the huge polaron virtual structure is set by the launcher at firing time. The chaos mathematics of the field interaction is calculated by the neural net of the Polaris vessel, which makes sure that the field will collapse in such a way that it will steer toward the target from the tube. A tiny field generator hovering in the middle of the torpedo modifies the field strengths to correct for mid-flight target variations, and provides the only part of the weapon system that has any mass whatsoever."

The Polaris have mastered the art of non-corporeal engineering, and the Polaron Torpedo is a prime example. A mass of Polaron particles--the essence of the Wraithii used by their smaller ships--is woven around a guiding core, producing a massive blast that will vaporize most fighters and do significant damage to anything bigger than that.

A maxxed out load of Polaron Torpedoes will set you back 100k.

By varying the quantity, spin and charge of the newly generated polarons, the tube can give the polaron 'virtual structure' a good bead on a target before the preprogrammed field generator in the heart of the energy burst takes over. And with a few relatively minor adjustments, it is now possible to use this weapon while the parent ship is cloaked."

Successful completion of Return to Ver'a Se initiates a series of cröns which eventually leads to the availability of the Tunneling Organ, Multi-Jump Organ, and Fire-while-cloaked weapons.

The FWC weapon has 50 extra duration (3900 range) and can fire while cloaked.
