TCTLIDS stands for The Creature That Lives In Deep Space. It was originally planned as part of Escape Velocity Nova's storyline, in which scientists would use them to create a narcotic called FATE. During the game's development, it was decided that TCTLIDS would not be involved in the game, and all references to it were removed except for the date of its discovery in the Nova Preambles.
FATE was later incorporated into the Shadow Operative storyline of ARPIA 2.
